Stress is the combination of psychological, physiological, and behavioral reactions. Most people have a response to events that challenge or threaten them. Stress good and bad. Good stress is called eustress. According to Hans Selye, a series of physiological reactions to stress occurring in three phases. Those phases are alarm, resistance, and exhaustion. This is also known as the general adaptation syndrome. General adaptation syndrome describes the bodys short-term and long-term reaction to stress. Stressors in humans include physical stressors, such as starvation being hit by a car, or suffering through severe weather. Additionally, humans can suffer emotional or mental stress, such as the loss of a loved one, the inability to†¦show more content†¦In short, stress might allow persons to change the way they think and act for the better. Stress is the cause of general adaptation syndrome and it can manifest as fatigue, irritability, difficulty concentrating, and difficulty sleeping. Persons may also experience other symptoms that are signs of stress. Persons experiencing unusual symptoms, such as hair loss, without another medical explanation might consider stress as the cause. Stress is often not helpful and can even be harmful when not managed effectively. Moreover, stress can increase the risk of developing health problems, such as cardiovascular disease and anxiety disorders. This bad kind of stress is called distress, the kind of stress that people usually are referring to when they use the word stress. Although most people would say that stress is a bad thing, they are mistaken. There is good stress that is positive and productive. Competing in an athletic event or falling in love are examples of good stress. These stressors are good providing the body with short-term energy (410). Stressors are events that threaten or challenge people. They are the sources of stress, such as having to make decisions, getting married, and natural disasters.
